Black Male Mentoring Program
Light of Loving Kindness’s Black Male Mentoring Program is a transformative 16-week journey designed to uplift and empower Black high school-aged males. Rooted in mindfulness, mental wellness, and the traditions of the African diaspora, the program provides mentorship, cultural connection, and social-emotional learning. Participants develop confidence, emotional resilience, leadership skills, and a deeper sense of identity and purpose—all within a sacred, supportive space.
Empowering Purpose, Identity & Wellness
At Light of Loving Kindness, we recognize that young Black men are facing real, systemic challenges—ranging from community violence and trauma to educational barriers and a lack of culturally reflective mentorship. The Black Male Mentoring Program responds to this urgent need with a powerful, 16-week experience designed to build connection, self-confidence, and emotional well-being.
Rooted in mindfulness-based practices, mental wellness support, and the ancestral wisdom of the African diaspora, this program helps participants discover their authentic selves and unlock their leadership potential. Drawing from the Sankofa Rites of Passage framework, each weekly session centers on healing, purpose, and legacy—guiding participants through personal development, cultural awareness, and life skills that affirm their value and expand their vision for the future.
Workshops explore topics such as self-awareness, intrapersonal and interpersonal communication, emotional regulation, mental health, etiquette, entrepreneurship, and workforce readiness. Sessions are enriched by strength assessments, journaling, yoga and movement, guided mindfulness, and field trips to culturally significant locations. Mentorship from trusted Black male leaders reinforces the core values of the program: love, accountability, presence, and purpose.
In partnership with Insight In You, a culturally competent mental health consultancy, youth also gain access to mental health education and support, including tools to reduce anxiety, depression, and stress. Parents are invited to engage through optional workshops to help strengthen their role in their child’s journey.
The program culminates in a Sankofa Rites of Passage Ceremony, where participants celebrate their growth and reflect on the legacy they are creating. Youth leave with a deeper understanding of who they are, where they come from, and what they are capable of achieving.
